Meet Holly & Benji - available for foster WITH A VIEW TO ADOPT or forever home
Before looking at our dogs please have a read of our adoption process thank you.
AVAILABLE TO ADOPT/FOSTER WITH A VIEW TO ADOPT:
Holly and Benji returned to our care at the end of February through no fault of their own. Holly and Benji have been together since they were very small pups, although not actually related. We are seeking a foster ( with intent to adopt) or forever home together if we can for Holly and Benji as they are very closely bonded after so much time together. Currently Holly and Benji are in paid boarding kennels in the Scottish Borders. The suggested adoption donation to adopt both dogs will be £350 total.
ABOUT HOLLY AND BENJI
Both are smaller medium size (Holly is around 13kg, Benji around 15kg).
Both turn 8 in July
Both are fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped
Holly is a friendly girl who is friendly with people she meets, she is at times a little uncertain still around strange men but is usually resolved by letting her approach people at her own pace. She has lived previously with a toddler and seems to love children, tending to gravitate to being around them. She is super cuddly and just loves everyone who has time to give her, she walks quite well on a lead and knows her basic commands. Holly is playful, adventurous and just a fab wee dog all-round. We do not think she is cat friendly, and currently are unable to assess this. Whilst Holly has some dog friends, she is mostly very uncertain around new dogs, particularly those approaching her personal space. She previously lived in the city and her behaviour was unpredictable with some reactivity, however she is much more laid back since a move to a quieter town and is able to be reasonably close to dogs whilst still retaining focus and being calm. Holly deserves her chance to shine with so many great qualities - she really is a dog for all people. Holly can travel in a car but shows some signs of stress, which could be further worked on. She is fully crate trained.
Benji is a little sweetheart, he is everyone's best friend and seems to love dogs and has been okay with cats he has met outside, however he has not been assessed with cats, and we would not be able to assess this. Benji has previously lived with a toddler just now however we feel he would be happier in a home with older children only, which would offer a quieter calmer environment. Benji is a little snuggle bug, who is happiest when around people and having cuddles. Benji walks perfectly on a lead and knows his basic commands. Benji has recently found his second puppyhood, enjoying toys and playing, but this is mostly with Holly. They love to wrestle and chase each other round (a lot)! Benji does not like fireworks or loud bangs - however guidance will be given on methods to reduce his anxiety during these times. He is fully crate trained. Benji can travel in a car but shows some signs of stress, which could be further worked on
We are seeking a pet free home, one with someone who would be able to take the time and patience needed to allow our pair to settle and acclimatise to all the upcoming changes. The home should be in a quiet area/setting offering less passing foot traffic and dogs etc. We would consider a home with older children who can demonstrate a hands off approach to the dogs as they settle.
We would consider a home with another dog, however they should be laid back and balanced and able to offer both dogs the space they need. This would be dependant on successful introductions and meet ups. We will consider rehoming the dogs into separate homes in certain circumstances, however they are very bonded and we feel that they may not cope well if separated from each other after many years together so will do so very reluctantly if two suitable homes should come along for each of them.
Free training has been offered from Louise who runs the kennels. This can be either in person in Berwickshire at her kennels or potentially internet based for those who live outwith the immediate area.
