Meet ella
Before looking at our dogs please have a read of our adoption process thank you.
Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer
Sex: Female Age: 18 months approximately (at December 2021) Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Child Friendly: Yes - see below Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: No Introducing Ella, our stunning GSP. Ella has been with us since October and in that time has grown in confidence from the once reserved pup. We believe she was dumped or lost however she was never claimed, and was not microchipped. Her body was very thin, and covered in wounds. She also had pressure sores on both hips, which have now fully healed. She was found wearing an electric training collar! Like all our dogs, Ella will be required to undertake some basic training alongside a science based, rewards/positive trainer to ensure that she never has any aversive equipment or methods used against her again. Ella is typical of her breed, very intelligent, active and has no off switch. Her adopters need to be aware that Ella will chew anything she can reach and fit into her mouth. This is something that can be worked on in her new home. Ella like to mouth other dogs and people. She is a super intelligent dog so will learn with calm, gentle guidance that this is not acceptable behaviour when given alternatives actions under learning with a trainer. We are looking for a GSP experienced owner, who are fully aware of the potential of a dog like Ella. We will also consider previous dog owners who can demonstrate a full awareness of the GSP breed, their traits and behaviours and what their home can offer a dog like Ella. We are not looking to place Ella in a home where she will be used as a gun dog or where she will be kennelled. We are looking for a domestic home but with an activity such as agility, mantrailing or tracking etc - a job that utilises her natural talents and drive. It should be noted that Ella is not suitable to be crated.
Ella is looking for a home with another dog who has a balanced nature. One who is playful and gentle would be perfect. Ella cannot live with cats. We would consider a home with children aged 6+ who can demonstrate the space and boundaries a dog needs. Ella has zero awareness of personal space and boundaries currently. She is a long legged puppy without any awareness of calm behaviour. Ella has not experienced the usual things puppies experience such as basic training and socialising and as a consequence is now a full sized puppy with all the usual puppy behaviours. Ella is ready and patiently waiting for her forever family, the ones who can open her world up and show her all the good things that are out there waiting for her. Ella is focussed on food, and praise for rewards. She will be a super quick learner when it comes to her formal training, once settled. She may require a degree of toilet training in her forever home and work on walking on a harness and lead, but we do not envisage issues with any of this for her adopters. Ella is showing some initial signs of separation distress in her foster home. This is also something that her adopters need to be aware of and be able to work with over a period of time. She may always have a degree of anxiety being left so an adopter who works from home, or who is not out of the house all day, with Ella being left on her own for hours is a must. If you are looking for a loyal, engaging and fun loving pup then look no further than Ella. To apply to be considered to give this lovely pup her forever home, then please complete the adoption application and someone will contact you Ella is looking for a monthly sponsor who can help us cover all her daily care costs and preparation to travel.
