Kali, adopted by Martin and Heloise, 2017
In March of this year we had the absolute honour of adopting Kali. ARC were fantastic and so supportive through the whole process. They gave so much time to try to ensure that we were matched with the right dog for us and course that we were suitable owners for Kali. Adopting Kali has truly been one of the best decisions we have ever made, and although we've not encountered any real issues so far,we both feel reassured that ARC are totally supportive and ready to help whenever you may need it. Kali is such a joy and has truly made this house a home. Massive thank you to ARC. |
Odie (was Larry), adopted by Emma, 2016
I always knew that I wanted to get a rescue for my first dog and I had began obsessively searching through all the rescue charities I knew off when I came across a facebook post mentioning Animal Rescue Crew! On checking out their dogs available for adoption I saw my gorgeous Odie (was Larry)and I knew I had to pursue.
After noting my interest online I promptly (though it felt like forever at the time!)heard back from Aimee, the coordinator and we arranged a telephone conversation to discuss further.
Aimee is passionate about the welfare of the dogs and finding them the perfect home, it was a lengthy conversation and my boyfriend joked "are you adopting a baby?!" well, yes! We discussed what I was looking for in a dog and described what my 'perfect' dog would be etc. I gave details of the kind of life I imagined giving my dog and talked about past experience etc. After the phone call I was delighted to find we had been successful!
We then had our home check and met with Carol and Annette, a couple of ARC's volunteers and Carol brought her Romanian rescue Cassie along too!It was very friendly and professional throughout and you can tell they have the dogs best interest and welfare at heart. I really feel that ARC match the right dog with the right home and felt confident that Odie was going to be a great fit.
Fast forward a couple of months and it's time to meet my little guy! It really was so exciting and I couldn't wait to bring him home. I went to meet Aimee after her long journey with the dogs and there was lots of smiley faces waiting to meet their new friends. We had another chat before Odie was allowed to come home with me, if Aimee wasn't confident you would be keeping your new dog safe then they wouldn't be leaving with you!
So off we went home and Odie started his new life In Edinburgh with me and my boyfriend Hamish. It's been 10 happy months now that we have shared together and it honestly is the BEST thing I ever did. People do sometimes ask me why I chose to adopt a dog from Romania and I think a big ethos in ARC is that, love and compassion has no borders and that is something I totally agree with. These dogs don't have the best start in life, some have had horrific experiences and if it wasn't for Florentina and her crew then a lot of these dogs wouldn't be here today, including mine.
I see joy and contentment in Odie's face everyday and that is the best feeling ever. The support and community you have with ARC is fantastic, it's like a wee family all rooting for each other and all with the shared love of their Romanian rescue. I thoroughly recommend adopting through ARC, you wont regret it!

Macie (was Gracie) and Jackson (was Prince), adopted by Alison, 2014
I found ARC online and was touched by Florentina's commitment to the dogs and how she helps them heal and grow from what ever struggles they have been through. I connected with Aimee and Lindsay who were both lovely and informative about the process. They have a well oiled system of making sure the dogs who are adopted find great forever homes and are always on hand even today to chat. I first got Macie then 6 months later adopted Jackson as well. These little monkey make me smile everyday (the dogs I mean). I would encourage anyone to adopt!!

JoJo, adopted by Becky and Paul, 2016
My partner and I adopted JoJo, and I must say if anyone is thinking of adopting a dog (or cat) this is definitely the place to do it. I always wanted for myself and my partner to get our own dog together, but wasn't looking for one right now. Then my friend Lucy who adopted a dog named Luna from ARC told me to have a look on their website. I don't know why, but when I saw JoJo's picture, I was hooked. I knew instantly that I needed to do anything and everything I could to get him.
Our situation was slightly different, as most dogs are transported from Romania and then, if all is well, they are adopted. However our JoJo was actually already in Scotland, in foster. So our situation isn't the same as others, however suited us very well as it gave us the chance to go and spend a couple of days getting my partners families dog used to JoJo. We don't permanently have Ben with us, but it was essential that he and JoJo got on.
Anyway, all went well and we proceeded to adopt JoJo. But all of this wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for Aimee. She was so helpful, explained everything to me over the phone, then organised the home check and then we got down to see JoJo. Aimee and her mum even managed to help find us accommodation for the night we were there as we stay quite far away. Aimee couldn't have been any more helpful.
One thing that made me comfortable throughout the whole process was how much ARC care about the well being of the dogs. They do home checks, give advice, make sure you are suited with the dog. I know that JoJo was in good care with the ARC, and now he is with me and I couldn't be happier. He is the perfect dog and the ARC looked after him so well until he came to me.
If you are reading this and deciding whether or not to adopt a dog from ARC, do it. They are honest and open about all of the animals, and will help you through the process. And you never know, you might find the dog you have always been looking for. I know I have. :)

Gianny, adopted by Marjorie and Neil, 2016
Although we knew we wanted a rescue dog, we did not set out to adopt a Romanian one. I had looked around the local rescues but had no luck as we were looking for a dog with a temperament that would enable him/her to come with me to my work. It was just by chance that I saw an advert for ARC and thought it would be worth a try.
From my first contact with ARC I felt confident that they knew what they were doing and had the dogs’ best interests at heart at all times. A Home Check is always carried out, but it is nothing to be worried about. They just need to see the environment the dog will be living in and ensure it is safe and suitable. In particular they need to ensure that there is no possibility of a dog escaping from any outside areas and advise of any changes that would need to be made. It is also a time to discuss the ins and outs of adopting a Romanian dog.
I have heard some people say that ARC’s rules around adopting a dog are overly strict but to me this was a plus point and a mark of their professionalism. As I have found subsequently, there are concrete reasons behind everything they do and ask the adopter to do with the driving force always the dog’s safety and well-being.
Two dogs were suggested to us as potential matches and of the two we chose Gianny and I have to say he is everything and more they described him as being. People have said to me was it not a bit strange choosing a dog without ever having met him/her? I suppose it is but surprisingly it didn’t seem strange and I felt very confident throughout the process.
There are several reasons for this, I believe. Firstly, Aimee and Lindsay who run the UK side of the charity have actually met the dogs and so could actually tell you first-hand about them. Also, although a lot of care and thought goes into matching up dogs with adopters there is always the possibility that there could be unexpected problems. Gianny has proved to be a perfect match for us, but I always felt confident that if there had been any problems, advice and help were never far away.
Another important factor for me was that when you sign up as an ARC adopter you are invited to join the ARC adopters group on Facebook. Within the group you are kept up to date with the adoption process, help you out with advice on what you need to provide for your pet as well as meet other adopters both past and present. But perhaps the most important thing about the group for me is that you get to meet Florentina, the Romanian lady who rescues the dogs in the first place. What an inspirational woman she is and from the videos she posts you can see how devoted she is to the dogs and the transformation they undergo while under her care as she literally brings them back to life. But from these videos, you get to see “your” dog and for me, this started the bonding process before you actually ever meet them. By the time we met Gianny when he came over from Romania I didn’t feel I was meeting a stranger and he was definitely “our” dog.
Over the few months Gianny has been with us it has been so rewarding getting to know him better and see not only him flourish but also our family flourish with him as part of it. If I had known what a positive experience it would be I would have done it years ago!
Overall, I don’t have any hesitation in recommending ARC if you’re considering adopting a Romanian dog. You will be fully supported both up to the point of adoption and beyond. At some point in the future I would love to be able to adopt a second dog and if/when that time comes ARC will definitely be my first port of call.

Hope, adopted by Mandy, 2015
We had been talking for a while about getting a rescue dog but couldn't consider it until we had moved into our present home when the conditions were right to get one. We had been in touch with Aimee and asked if she had any dogs that would fit well within our family life. She suggested Hope, we checked her profile and decided she was the one for us. We had a couple of things we needed to do, a higher secure fence and side gate,to make the garden safe for her. We had plenty of good advice before she arrived and we continue to get plenty of support if we need it. On the whole the whole adoption process has been very thorough and easy. We've had her a year now but it feels as if she's been with us forever and she has made our family complete. She was the perfect match for our family. Thank you Animal Rescue Crew for letting us give this gorgeous girl a place in our lives

Ben, adopted by Deborah, 2015
I rescued my dog Ben 1 year ago today from ARC. I had never owned a dog before but I knew I was ready and had a lot of love to give to a wee pooch. ARC made sure I was fully prepared and equipped to ensure I would be the right owner for a wee dog. Ben arrived and I fell in love. He is the funniest wee dog with bags of personality. This year has been extremely rewarding watching Ben grow in confidence and cement himself as part of our family. The ARC team matched us very well. Ben is the right dog for me and my lifestyle and this match has meant we have had the best year!! If you are thinking of rescuing a dog do it! These dogs have so much love to give!!

Tammy (was Ginger) and Dolly (was Amber), adopted by Gillian, 2015
I had kept up with Florentina's animal rescue work in Romania for years through Facebook. So many gorgeous dogs and cats needing homes away from the hell-hole of the Constanta public shelter. I felt 100% confident that the cat's personality and quirks would be described accurately. Florentina's understanding of her kids is spot-on.
I chose Amber, a young black female cat first. With Aimee and Lindsay's help, the whole process ran quickly and smoothly and was thorough (they really do want the best for the kids). I was smitten by Amber immediately and wondered how I lived without her previously. I have an older dog and an older cat and neither was interested in playing with her, so I started the process to adopt her sister who was still in Romania. Again, the process was smooth and thorough. Transportation is all organised by ARC. Ginger took a lot longer to settle in, being a much shyer cat, but I was helped and supported by Aimee, Lindsay and Florentina.
Many rescue organisations appear to care about numbers only, but ARC are careful, caring and professional. Thanks for everything.

Sam, adopted by Gwen, 2015
I saw Sam on Facebook in the album last year, all wrapped up and being cared for 24/7 by Florentina, He had been rounded up by the dog catchers and dumped in the public shelter which is where Florentina rescued him from. He was like a skeleton, very ill, he had mange, full of worms. He then developed distemper. My heart went out to him. I wasn't it a position to adopt another dog then but the images of him never went. Fast forward to this year and I was in a position to increase my furry family and was overjoyed to be able to bring Sam to the UK to live with me at last. The adoption process was easy and straight forward, there was always some one who could be contacted if I had any questions or needed advice about anything. Fast forward 4 months and he has settled in so well, loves meeting everyone when we are out and about, he is a little star.

Cassie, adopted by Carol and Andrew, 2014
We have had Cassie in our home as part of our family since October of last year. We wanted a dog that would fit in with our two cats and our lifestyle which involves a lot of outdoor activity. ARC were excellent in matching our brief with a wonderful dog. We were reassured greatly by the fact that Aimee and Lindsay both put the needs of the dog first. The care they put into making sure we were right for the dog just as much as the dog was right for us told us we had made the right choice in going to ARC in the first place. Since Cassie came to us, she has blossomed. The fact that ARC are available and supportive made for a happier transition time for dog and humans alike. I would unconditionally recommend ARC for anyone wishing to rescue a dog and give it a second chance. In fact, since coming on board, Cassie and the family have worked hard to spread the word, support ARC and encourage others to adopt one of Flori's kids.

Ellie (2015) and Jessie (2016), adopted by Ruth and Ernie
We’d been looking for a dog for a while and came across the ARC website. Seeing photos and description of Ellie, we fell in love with her and just knew she was the dog for us.
The process that we went through to get her over here to us was just so professional, but personal, in every way. Any questions were answered straight away and the home check happened swiftly.
Choosing Ellie was easy, it was a total heart decision but then the head kicked in with ‘what have we done! Although we’ve had several rescue dogs before, it’s the last thing we could have imagined, taking on a dog that we’d not even met, let alone from Romania! Yet we felt so confident about the description we were given from Florentina, just knowing that the welfare of her rescued dogs was so important to her, preferring to keep them until the best home was found. She kept in touch with us, telling us more about Ellie until she travelled and sending lots of photos. Then the brilliant ARC team did the same on her epic journey!
Six weeks ago Ellie came home to us and we love her to bits. She is just as Florentina described, so sweet and gentle. Yes, it’s an ongoing process to build up her confidence but it’s wonderful to see every step she takes. She’s great with the cats, is a perfect dog for the grandchildren and now has the waggiest tail ever! This week she’s had her first mad run around the garden which made us laugh so much as she looked so surprised afterwards, as if to say, ‘what was that, I’ve never done that before!’
This has all been a bit of an adventure for us (and Ellie!) but we are SO pleased we went with the heart decision and can only say, if you see a dog that ‘speaks’ to you then just go for it! :)

Nala, adopted by Kirsty, 2015
Originally choosing another cat Nala was advised as a better match for our busy household, the best decision ever, a stunning cat with a gentle, friendly nature to match!! Settled immediately with us n the 2 dogs, uses litter tray no problem, only 1 accident on first night :-) We put our trust in ARC and Florentina having never met Nala, what did we get? The most friendly and loving cat I've ever known, would I adopt from ARC again? YES, thanks guys xxx

Jeni, adopted by Sharon, 2014
We lost our elderly Bernese Mountain dog 'Glory' last year. We knew straight away that we would look for a new companion for our adopted St Bernard - Bruno. We spent a lot of time perusing all the Doggy rescue sites and came upon the ARC site purely by chance. Taking a rescue dog from another country was not something we had considered. We looked into the plight of the dogs in Romania and it was shocking. That was it, we decided to broaden our search. We kept returning to the ARC site and in particular to a picture of Jeni. What a terrible life she must have had before being rescued by the amazing Florentina. Jeni was skin and bone and her poor little body was covered in mange. Florentina rescued Jeni from the Public shelter where she was sentenced to certain cruel death. With lots of love and veterinary care, Florentina in time, got her back on her feet and well enough, after an assessment of her suitability for rehoming to be offered for adoption. The Adoption process is very thorough. Aimee contacted me and and we had a very long discussion about us and whether or not Jeni was the right dog for us. We had a home check and got the green light. We waited for about six weeks for Jeni to arrive. We have never looked back. She is a lovely gentle German Shepherd. A credit to her breed despite her bad start in life. The Animal Rescue Team are a dedicated team who work so hard to find forever homes for dogs and now cats. Help and advice are always available, so you are never alone. Take a look at all those happy endings on the website

The Animal Rescue Team are a dedicated team who work so hard to find forever homes for dogs and now cats. Help and advice are always available, so you are never alone. Take a look at all those happy endings on the website
Maya, adopted by Lynne and Steven, 2014
We Adopted Maya from ARC in November 2014. She is a beautiful Cocker Spaniel who was not so lucky in Romania so we decided to give her her 2nd chance here in Scotland with my family and our our Rommie Adotion, Tedy. I would advise anyone looking to re-home a dog to look at this site and give another wee one a furever home here in Scotland. the Adoption was done professionally by ARC Volunteers and they offer a brilliant backup service with any advice that you may require. Please consider adopting from this rescue.

Cora, adopted by Jenny
I am so happy i adopted Cora through this wonderful charity. They always answer any questions you may have promptly and professionally. I have just adopted my sweet Cora and they were very efficient in answering any queries i had and do their best to make sure that the dog you are adopting is suitable to your home environment and needs. I adopted from Romania before and they made sure that Cora was suitable for our home and my girl. They are also brilliant for giving advice and helping with settling in needs. I cant honestly fault this wonderful charity and the service we have received is first class and i am so happy to have been able to adopt my wonderful Cora through a charity that really puts the dogs first.

Mimi, adopted by Donna, 2014
I have 2 small Romanian dogs, Pippa and Mimi. They are the sweetest wee girls who both settled extremely well, with few issues. Both clean and dry in the house from day one, very attentive but a little scared of new things. however with good training, slow exposure to new sights, sounds and people, both are happy, well adjusted wee furballs. ARC do a wonderful job, in conjunction with Florentina in Romania. I was very hesitant to adopt from abroad and from complete strangers but it was the best thing I have done. Everything is so well co-ordinated and the group have become like friends and family. Can highly recommend it. Thank you guys for all you do to help these poor abandoned furkids x

Crina, adopted by Jan, 2014
My retirement was looming and I thought the time was now finally right to get a dog. I have never really been a walker so thought a little companion would force me to get out. However, this decision met a lot of opposition with friends, family and relatives all telling me not to do it as it was too much of a commitment. This opinion did at times sway me, but my stubborn mind was made up. When people realised that my decision was made, every single one asked me "what kind of dog?" My answer never changed. A rescue dog. A mongrel. All I had to do was find a dog. Easy? No far from it. As a cat lover all my adult life, I have two gorgeous Ragdoll (Indoor) cats. I won't go into the specifics of this breed - just take it that they aren't really dog savvy. My only requirement for a dog HAD to be that it was good with cats.
So I set about looking for one visiting all the rehoming centres, the Internet sites for virtually every rehoming centre in Scotland and even trailed across the country looking at one. But no joy. None had been assessed for cats. Then I spotted a lovely little doggie in an advert who sounded perfect. But he was in Romania. Not a chance! But I kept going back to that advert and finally plucked up the courage to contact ARC.
Well unfortunately, I wasn't considered right for this little doggie but there were plenty of others to choose from. I was pretty decided on the dog for me when his gorgeous face appeared in some ARC photos but her profile wasn't listed. However, while I was awaiting my telephone interview with Aimee her profile appeared and I read her story. That night I had a cry to myself and I knew she was my karma. Next Lindsay appeared for my home visit and brought one of her dogs. OMG that was a shock. A DOG in my house. Made sense though. To see how we would all react.
And that was it. I committed myself to Crina and set about making my house dog friendly and working out how to introduce everyone. All I then had to do was sit back and wait while ARC took all the pain out of the paperwork and bring her over to Scotland. I was so excited and had lots of fun buying all kinds of doggie stuff. But as the big day drew nearer, I began to have doubts. What had I done? What if the cats can't cope? What if I can't cope?
By the big day I was a nervous wreck and wondered what would happen if a did a runner! I!m a cat person. Could I love a dog. I admit that I sat in that car park waiting for her in terror. But I signed the papers and took My little Crina home. My plans to keep Crina and the cats separate and introduce them slowly were thrown out the window within 30 mins. She is such a quiet gentle dog. Bailey and Crina are now almost friends and she frequently gives him a good licking! With time even Lola has learned that Crina isn't going to hurt her and is getting braver.
I started to go out walking - 3 times a day. I discover I had neighbours and they like to talk to me. I reminded myself I live in a beautiful part of the country and that I loved our long walks up the hill. My gorgeous shoe collection fell by the wayside and was replaced by walking boots. I met people I knew up the hills and joined their hiking group. I discovered that when I went out without her my fur baby was always overjoyed to see me joyously welcomes me home. It's a wonderful feeling. My daughter loves her as much as me and takes over dog walking duties when I'm not around despite insisting this would be my job. My mum loves her to visit and always has a treat ready. Infact everybody she meets falls in love with Crina.
And the best thing about adopting from ARC? Well you know that you are never alone. You have family. You have back up. If you have any little questions or doubts there is always someone a FB post away who can answer or reassure you no matter how stupid you might feel your point is.
So if you are thinking of adopting a dog, please give a thought to these gorgeous Romanian dogs. The team will soon steer you to the right dog for your family and will advise you all about them - warts and all. I have absolutely no regrets about adopting from ARC. I now have in Crina the absolutely perfect dog!

I now have three Romanian Rescue Dogs with my third one adopted through Animal Rescue Crew :D I can't praise Aimee and Lindsay enough for all they do for the dogs! They are very professional and thorough when dealing with future adopters and always make sure that the dogs are suitably matched. If you ever need any advice they are always available to help and the dogs always come first :) they are a great team with Florentina and work closely together to assure all animals receive the best care. If you are looking for a Rescue dog Animal Rescue Crew is the place to find one, I can tell you three times over its the best decisions I have ever made :)

Zena and Jess (2014), Lady (2015), Jasper (2016),adopted by Susan and Paul
We now have three dogs which we have adopted via ARCanimalrescuecrew.org i found them quite by chance when I was looking for a dog to go with our three British rescue dogs. Aimee and Lindsay were so helpful and choosing a dog was so hard in the end we decided upon Zena just because she was a little brown dog who kept getting overlooked,Jessie came next another little brown dog who needed a home and then in November Lady(now Lucy) who is neither little or brown! Throughout the adoption process we were guided by Aimee and Lindsay and were delighted to find that the adoption process was very thorough which we knew meant they really wanted the best for the animals. Florentina is a superstar and anyone who adopts one of her rescues adopts an animal that she has loved and cared for. It must be heartbreaking for her to say goodbye but also lovely to know that they are going onto their new forever homes where they will be loved and usually thoroughly spoilt whilst having a good life with owners who love them. Also when you adopt you become part of this lovely family of friends that you have never and probably will never meet, but who support each other, be it delight at a new adoption or sadness when one of the animals passes away. And the dogs well, Zena is a slightly chunkier version of the one that arrived, she is such a star, full of character, a real comic and we would not change her for the world. Jessie is continuing to come out of her shell and we are seeing more of the cheeky girl she will be one day in the not too distant future. She actually came and climbed on my knee the other night and licked my nose-----what a breakthrough (guess who was in tears). She adores Paul but is a little dog who always stands back, but I am sure she is learning how well loved she is. Lucy is actually going up to people now to say hello she will let them pat her (just once because that is what she is comfy with) and she chooses carefully who she will go to. Some neighbour's of ours who met her on one of her first walks when she tried to hide in a bush, are delighted that she now runs to say hello and be petted and usually given a treat. We have been so lucky to find such lovely, lovely dogs and we love all 6 to bits! All rescue dogs come with some form of baggage but with love, kindness and time they become fantastic dogs! To anyone thinking of adopting via the "crew" I would thoroughly recommend it. Both the animals and the people are lovely and you will always have support! |
